Streaming quality

Is there a way to choose what bitrate you want when streaming music? Yeah my mobile data plan isn't the best so I would love to lower the quality a bit when I'm on the road.

We have added this to our backlog nad will look into it for an upcoming release.

This is not currently supported. Do you want this ability in the Helium Streamer web interface or the mobile apps?

Preferably both, but for mobile it's a must for people like me with limited data plans.

Also switching to another format would be nice. There are audio-encoders that are way better in compression vs. quality and therefor better for streaming.

Or is mp3 really the only possible solution?

MP3 is the most versatile format when it comes to streaming over the web, since all major browsers supports it. It is of course possible to transcode into another format but we would need to look into which formats are supported on which platforms and browsers since this varies a lot.

AAC in MP4 should be compatible with all major browsers.

Do you have a reference for this? We also need to verify that the replaying component we use supports this.

Or here on Wikipedia.

Though I haven't tested this for myself. ;-)
